Dear Paul,

We were wrong. It wasn't you. Please forgive us.

Sincerely,

Will, I don't know if you have written about this in other places and I haven't seen the answer. I think all Dodger pitchers once they leave spring training should have MRI's on the pitching arms. Whether they are experiencing any pain or not. From there the Dodgers would have baseline, so if a pitcher complained of soreness and say had to miss a start. You could take an MRI and compare-and then if a ligement as in the case of Yhency was ready to go, perhaps with rest he would have bounced back.

Good thought, Louis, but I'll disagree slightly.

All pitchers should have a baseline MRI at some point, but I'd do that as early as possible. I'd hesitate to do something when they're asymptomatic for a number of reasons - cost, something else in their med file when you try and trade them, getting in their head. Yhency wouldn't have been saved by an MR; his injury avulsed, meaning the ligament tore away bone.

Will, your feedback is wonderful. Perhaps you can answer this one:

As Dodger fans, why are the injury gods still pissed at us? I understand we had Kevin Malone rattling sabres, Sheff and Kevin Brown were in uniform, and it was a given that we weren't just tempting fate, we were doing a dance and saying, "Nanny, nanny, nanny goat" and Fate said, "Hubris, my a**, you guys are just begging for it." We deserved it. We're sorry. But when does it stop? You know a lot about injuries so I thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance.

3 - Come on, you don't sign guys like Nomar and Lofton and expect miracles (i.e., health).

What they should say, PART II

Dear Bud,

I'm sorry. We gave it a go but we just couldn't hack it. It's a shame that our lasting legacy is "At least Murdoch is gone," but it is what it is. Maybe allowing us to sign Vlad would have helped... We'll be sure to let you know when we see a tasty new opportunity for some parking lots.

Good luck with the Bonds thing -
Frank and Jamie
