College and NFL Picks
2005-09-10 08:52
by Scott Long

Started off a little shaky in the colleges, going 2-3, but hopefully the second week will be better.

Ohio St. (-1) vs. Texas (4 star)
Maryland (–2) vs. Clemson (3 star)
Hawaii (+31.5) vs. Michigan St. (2 star)
Nebraska (-6) vs. Wake Forest (2 star)
Rice (+25) vs. UCLA (2 star)

I love Ohio State, as the Big 12 is overrated, Texas stinks in big games and the Buckeyes stadium will be shaking. Clemson has a hard time bringing it 2 weeks in a row, as last week's upset gives good value to Maryland. I will give the Rainbow Warriors another shot this week. Sure Nebraska has fallen quite a bit, but for the Huskers to be only a 6 point favorite at home versus the Demon Deacons? UCLA is not 25 points better than almost anyone and include Rice on that list.

I lost my first NFL pick, because Norv Turner is only half the coach Belichek is. I have learned my lesson.

Cincinnati (-3) vs. Cleveland (3 star)
Tampa Bay (+6) vs. Minnesota (3 star)
Tennessee (+7) vs. Pittsburgh (2 star)

Cleveland is awful, while Minnesota and Pittsburgh are down from last year. Both win, but in close games.

Time to stop posting college picks. 2-3 again, and 0-2 on your top star picks. Get the picks in early this week, so I can bet the other way ;)

The first weekend was not good, but this past weekend sucked hard, considering Ohio State was up almost the whole game and the same went for Maryland. It's called a bad beat and I'm aware of the suckage of it. I will give it a couple more weeks, but feel free to go against my choices and tell me how you did. I'm all for someone making some money off of my picks, whatever way you use them.

Locks of the week: Take the over for UCLA/Oklahoma. No D.

Cal over Illinois. Cal will run it up big. 21-1/2 is nothing.

ASU over Northwestern. ASU outplayed LSU, but special teams killed them. Northwestern could barely beat Northern Illinois. Give the 15-1/2
